Sunday "Read These" Round-Up

Carina Sitkus

This week's round-up is worth the wait, I promise.

Let's get to it:

1. 12 Perfect Books for Your End-of-Summer Reading List. You can never have enough to read. Have you had the chance to dig into any of the books I recommended at the beginning of the summer?

2. What College Can't Do. This piece in The New Yorker speaks to college culture, but also the busyness of modernity. I also really like Rothman's piece about the "artist's sense of privacy." You can read that one here

Here's a snippet, too:

...there is no final, satisfying way to balance our need to be known with our need to be alone. The balance is always uncertain and provisional; it’s always a matter of dissatisfaction, give-and-take, and sacrifice. Because an artist’s privacy is a state of mind, rather than a matter of law, there are no rules to help us master it. It’s up to each of us to balance the risks and rewards—to trade, in right proportion, loneliness for freedom, explicability for mystery, and the knowable for the unknown within ourselves.

3. Internal Time: The Science of Chronotypes, Social Jet Lag, and Why You’re So Tired. Einstein needed ten hours of sleep. Who are WE to judge?

Have a great week!
