Have you ever heard of NaNoWriMo?
I didn't, until a few weeks ago when a friend recommended it. I was reminded of it again when I read this blog by a writer I follow on Medium. I'm way behind the times, apparently.
"NaNoWRiMo" is short for "National Novel Writing Month," which takes place in November. Basically, the goal is to write 50,000 words of your novel between November 1 and November 30. You write as fast as you can - without worrying about editing - and track your progress by logging your word count periodically on the site. I'm a little nervous about the not editing part because I tend to be paralyzed by perfectionist tendencies (read: don't be like that!), but that also means this is the perfect stretch activity for getting outside my personal comfort zone.
When you sign up, you're also asked to pick your region so you can stay updated on in-person meet-ups and events going on in your state/community.
Interested? The first step is to make an account and "announce" your novel.
I'm so looking forward to this! Who doesn't love a way to get motivated and stick to a writing schedule (once and for all)?
They say habits form after 21 days, so hopefully this challenge gets you writing at least daily... and then some!
Find me by searching for ccpwriter. I still have to spruce up my profile...
